Sirius - The Infallible Hunter

The story of a hunting dog who saw space itself

Written by @StargazerByakko

- Hey there! Pleasure to meet you! Name's Sirius, Master Spy and Robin Hood, self-proclaimed, of course! So you wanna know more about me? Sure, I guess I can spare a bark or two~

Olympus - Athenian days

Prologue .

Once upon a time existed a hunting hound, this hunting hound was blessed with the ability to never fail at catching its quarry, neither the trickiest of rabbits nor the most apex of predators could escape the swift and inexhaustible Laelaps. This hound was a gift sent from the mighty Zeus to his consort Princess Europa, alongside this hound were other gifts such as the mythical Talos: An automaton guard who would eventually be found in the possession of Hephaestus.Laelaps eventually found itself under the ownership of an Athenian Princess named Procris. Life was simple and hunting was bountiful for the hound until one day, Cephalus: Procris' husband decided to use Laelaps to hunt the Teumessian Fox, this fox had the uncanny ability to never be caught, this led to a paradox being formed: How could Laelaps be destined to succeed at a hunt in which the target is impossible to hunt? This paradox also caught Zeus' attention, who saw it right to turn both Laelaps and its' vulpine prey into stone, before casting them into outer space to form the constellations known as Canis Major and Canis Minor. Canis Major is the constellation that Laelaps embodies.

"Life was pretty sweet back then, I was capable of running through as many vineyards and across as many rooftops as I pleased, just so I could hunt down my next target~"

Outer Space - Lone Bright Star

It was freezing cold. . .

As Laelaps was cast into the depths of Outer Space by Zeus, he felt his white robes and gold embellishments begin to crisp and melt away, his well-groomed body had become littered with burns as a result of the deities' wrath. Laelaps had been left in a state of confusion and fear: he couldn't understand why he wasn't capable of doing the one thing he had always done with that fox on top of having to go through the punishment for failing such an unfair trial. Clutching himself into a ball-like position, Laelaps tried his best to ignore the searing scars that now serve as a reminder of his first-ever failed hunt.Hours of this new solitude turned into days, days turned into years, years quickly warped into an unfathomable eternity. Laelaps had his eyes shut, his tired head not even questioning how he was still alive within the unforgiving vacuum of void. He truly believed that he was going to be alone forever - until an esoteric sensation started to disrupt his tucked-in legs. This sensation, rather than being a threat, introduced itself by being the warmth that protected Laelaps from the harsh cold of the void, yet also the fresh cool that soothed the wolf from the blazing sun all the same. The lone wolf finally opened his eyes to see a sticky black-green substance begin to coat his body. To some this coating would be considered to be as shiny as obsidian or the most tarlike ink, while others would label this substance as 'Dark Matter'. Whichever it may be, Laelaps begins to kick and struggle in the depths of emptiness, causing the newly-formed stars coursing through his body to glow and shimmer as this enigmatic coating snakes and coils its way up the hound's body.Laelaps' alerted self would find an overwhelmingly soothing sensation begin to stroke at his thunderous scars. Whilst black tar had coated the majority of his front, a vibrant green had wrapped its way tightly around his wounds as if to act as some sort of bandage to his trauma. Rather than sprawling his body in pain, the hound begins to extend its muscles like the proud hunting dog he once was; Laelaps could feel a bright and glowing warmth start to pulsate from his upper chest as this foreign body and his previously petrified self seamlessly combined into one. Instead of tremors of fear and loneliness, he could feel tears of joy start to shimmer in his eyes.

"Jeeez, I never wanna spend another moment in Outer Space and honestly? Thunder and Lightning's still very very frightening~"

Modern Day - New Years Day

The Year is 20XX . . .

Whilst most were celebrating New Years, some were still enraptured in their work and hobbies. At a hilltop observatory there stood a new-and-blooming astrologist that, in distaste of the loud explosions and cacophony that the usual masses threw in jubilation, took comfort in glancing past the light shows with his trusty equipment; the stars fascinate him far more than any firework ever could. The young astrologist's eyes stick to their apparatus to the point nobody would be able to see their perplexed yet infatuated stare. Despite all of the light pollution and noise, the night sky was full of stars yet the brightest star in the night sky would prove to be especially elegant: it sparkles, shimmers, and pulses in a way that causes the researcher to quickly take pictures with their equipment since they knew that this would certainly impress their mentor and peers.Meanwhile, Laelaps' limbs continued to flex and tense within the shiny confines which he had become symbiotic with. He could feel his previous boundless energy resurge as his skilled legs broke out into a vigorous jaunt and, eventually, the wolf would feel a sinking sensation, not from his heart nor his spirit, but his feet as they become engulfed in flames. He closes his eyes tightly and braces for the worst, yet a morbidly curious peek soon opens his eyes in amazement to see a familiar-yet-foreign realm quickly getting closer and closer. The long-lost sensation of wind tickles his nose and runs through his scalp… before a resounding explosion echoes through an unknown grassland.Excitement and awe take over the astrologist's mind as they attempt to wrap their head around what they had just witnessed. Nobody would ever believe what this young prodigy had just observed while stargazing that night; for within an attempt to locate the Canis Major star, the intrepid researcher saw what looked like a canine figure being enveloped in a shadow-like material. Their eyes narrow in disbelief as they watch on and attempt to document their findings, until only then do they realise that this anomaly was beginning to, not only increase in size, but in brightness. Eventually, such brilliance emanating from the rogue celestial body causes the astrologist to look away and rub their eyes. Their mouth is left agape once he glances out of the window. This spectacle isn't just a star anymore; it is a comet destined to crash into Earth!Completely enraptured by this cosmic oddity, the astrologist scampers outside to get a closer look. They see the immaculate comet descend onto Earth, followed by an outstanding explosion comparable to a substantial firework misfire. After scrambling into their vehicle, the researcher eagerly tries to locate the crash site as they dream of the status of fame that's to come from being the first to see an extra-terrestrial encounter in person. However, their heart would find itself stolen when they run into nothing but an empty crater: the object of their new obsession either stolen or absconded. Taking their blurry pictures into their hands, this novice researcher had become the first to encounter and become infatuated with Sirius' wily mystique.

"I wanna see those pictures too, y'know? But you're gonna have to catch me first!"

Relationships

I met Byakko when he needed a helping hand. From the way he dressed and acted, I had no idea he was barely more than a year older than me! I occasionally use the lawyer tiger's spare bedroom whenever I need to lay low for a bit, but I always make sure to never involve him in any trouble, he'd get far too worried if he heard what I did last week~

Locke and I became friends through this sorta popular geolocation game on the phone! Ze wanted help with these raids or whatever, and I said 'sure' so long as ze stopped spoofing hir location to the other side of town, I thiiink I'm one of the first to have brought hir out of hir room, actually?

Mr. Kacper! He's the sparky I met whilst free-running in a construction yard, I was expecting him to tell me off hard, but he was faaar more civil and understanding than what I was expecting! Since one of my stomping grounds is near where he's working, I've made it a routine to meet him whenever I see him on lunch break.
